Q. David, first let me say I really enjoyed your work on that TV show. A. That wasn’t me.
Q. Ya, sure it was. I remember names alright: David Cross – you’re a funny guy! A. That’s a different fellow
Q. Oh, I see…you create a different persona for yourself when you’re writing, like Chinaski. A. No, it’s just me. Another guy has the same name but without the “S” in the middle.
Q. And what’s his name? A. Who?
Q. The other David Cross A. Yes

are we there yet?
I always felt I was never quite there Where I wanted to be Where I should be, could be But always existing Just on the fringe Of that place Lurking in the shadows On the periphery Living a life Not quite there A life not at all Like the life I thought of Long ago When I actually Thought about living Thought what a life Might be Someday
Then it all broke Fell to pieces And I felt nothing I did not think About life; not quite there Nor about life where I was Or wanted to be
When I finally picked up the pieces Reassembled life’s bits I felt as I always felt Still not quite there
