Rather than commissioning pieces, the fourth issue of Beat the Dust was open to all writers to submit work. No theme – anything was considered. So, expect blasphemy, a gravedigger in Disneyland, Mark Ronson having sex with Lady GaGa on a piano, a dwarf pissing on dolphins, an actual message in a bottle thrown off the Isle of Wight Ferry and a child killer. Yep, it's creamy literary goodness, folks.
Patti Smith's inauguration prayer, January 20, 2009
In lieu of a bio (cos frankly if you don’t know who Patti Smith is then you deserve to be flogged with rhubarb before a baying crowd!) I’m posting (without permission – yikes!) the prayer Patti Smith wrote to commemorate the inauguration of Barack Obama.
We pray for the safety of him and his family. We pray he will infuse us with the courage of patience. We pray he will admonish Israel for the destruction of Gaza. We pray he will hold steadfast his moral inner narrative. We pray it will not be stilled or drowned by the voice of politics. We pray he will be a good man and we a good people.
