Beat the Dust's Open Issue...

16/07/2010

...it's creamy literary goodness. For the July issue, instead of commissioning pieces from selected writers, Beat the Dust was open to all scribers to submit their latest unpublished poetry and prose. No theme - anything was considered. What we've got for you then is a bit of blasphemy, a gravedigger in Disneyland, Mark Ronson having sex with Lady GaGa on a piano, a dwarf pissing on dolphins, an actual message in a bottle thrown off the Isle of Wight Ferry and a child killer. Expect fiction from Malcolm Bennett, Socrates Adams-Florou, Sara Crowley and Matt Kinnison, Jarred McGinnis, Paul Ewen, Sam Taradash and Michael Keenaghan, and poetry from Rob Plath, James Rippingale and Sam Mead... writers for the most part, then that Beat the Dust has never published before. Alongside the poetry and prose, we're showing music vids chosen from our contributors' playlists. Tom Waits, Jake Thackray, Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra, Suede and Jonelle Monae are amongst those providing the cool choons.

Click the link to read Beat the Dust's July issue online. If you'd rather read it under the covers with a packet of Hob Nobs, here's the printable chapbook edition. The next issue of Beat the Dust is in September and we're handing the reins over to another Guest Editor. More news as it happens, folks.

Alright, I'll leave you with a vid of M.I.A's performance of Born Free live on Letterman this week, featuring Suicide's Martin Rev and various dopplegangers. No hint of any ginger-type people being culled for our viewing pleasure though. See the official video for that... except you can't cos it's been banned for being racist... or hair colourist.
